Installation Requirements
Hoymiles plug-in solar products are designed for residential applications and must be installed and operated in accordance with the applicable laws, grid-connection requirements, and technical standards of the country where they are used.
Before installation, users must verify the applicable requirements for their specific installation, particularly the permitted inverter output, connection method, notification or registration requirements, and whether professional installation is required.
1. Germany
For plug-in solar systems classified as “Steckersolargeräte” under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), the applicable statutory limits are:
- Total installed PV module power: up to 2,000 W
- Total inverter output: up to 800 VA
These limits are set out in Section 8(5a) EEG.
For systems within these limits and subject to the conditions of the EEG, separate notification to the local grid operator is generally no longer required. However, the system must still be registered in the German Market Master Data Register (Marktstammdatenregister, MaStR).

For installations exceeding the above limits or falling outside the statutory definition of a Steckersolargerät, the normal grid-connection and registration requirements apply.
2. France
In France, photovoltaic installations connected to the public electricity grid are subject to grid-connection and, depending on the installation, planning requirements.
For self-consumption without electricity export, Enedis provides a specific procedure based on the Convention d’Autoconsommation Sans Injection (CACSI). Certain pre-assembled plug-and-play systems that comply with the applicable standard may qualify for simplified treatment.
For installations subject to planning regulations, prior authorization may also be required. The applicable procedure depends on factors such as installation type, location, power, and mounting method.

3. Belgium
Belgian requirements for plug-and-play solar and battery systems are subject to the technical rules of the relevant distribution network operator and the applicable Synergrid C10/11 requirements.
For example, in Flanders, plug-and-play devices with a power of 800 W or more must be registered with Fluvius within 30 days. Devices below this threshold may also be registered voluntarily, particularly where injection compensation is required.
For fixed PV installations, registration with Fluvius is mandatory, and applicable AREI inspection requirements must also be met.

Requirements may differ between Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels-Capital, so users must check with the relevant regional distribution system operator before installation.
4. Netherlands
Solar PV installations in the Netherlands are subject to applicable electrical installation standards and grid requirements. The relevant requirements depend on the type and configuration of the installation.
The Dutch government’s RVO provides the applicable framework for solar installations, including installation standards and requirements under Dutch legislation.
For battery systems with a power of 0.8 kW or more, registration is required under the applicable Dutch registration requirements.

Users should also verify the requirements applicable to their electricity connection and distribution network operator before connecting a system.
5. Spain
In Spain, residential self-consumption installations are primarily regulated by Royal Decree 244/2019, which establishes the administrative, technical, and economic framework for electricity self-consumption.
For low-voltage self-consumption installations with generation power below 100 kW, registration in the administrative self-consumption register is generally handled by the competent autonomous community based on information submitted under the applicable low-voltage electrical installation regulations.
For self-consumption without surplus, the regulation provides an exemption from obtaining a separate generation access and connection permit where the applicable conditions are met.

6. Italy
In Italy, simplified grid-connection procedures apply to certain small renewable-energy installations.
Under ARERA Resolution 315/2020/R/eel, simplified connection procedures apply to generation installations with a power below 800 W, including qualifying plug-and-play systems.
The relevant procedure requires submission of a Comunicazione Unica to the competent distribution system operator. Plug-and-play systems covered by this simplified framework must comply with the applicable technical requirements, including CEI 0-21.

Where local law requires electrical installation or commissioning to be carried out by a qualified professional, the installation must be performed by an appropriately qualified electrician.
