The HiBattery 4020 X works with all solar panel systems, while the 4020 AC is designed for inverter-based setups. Choose 4020 X for direct PV connection. Choose 4020 AC if you already have an inverter system.
Is professional installation required, or can I set it up myself?
No professional installation is required. The HiBattery 4020 X and 4020 AC feature a simple plug-and-play design, allowing you to set it up yourself in just a few easy steps.
What does “plug and play” mean?
The plug-and-play design allows for quick installation without complicated wiring or construction work. Simply plug into a household socket and connect it the existing solar system, then it is ready to operate. This design saves installation costs and offers a safer energy storage solution than conventional household batteries.

How long does it take to fully charge the battery from solar panels?
The charging time depends on your solar panel power output and sunlight conditions. With strong sunlight and a typical residential solar setup, the HiBattery 4020 (4.02kWh) can usually be fully charged in a few hours (around 3–6 hours under optimal conditions).
Lower solar input, cloudy weather, or partial system loads may extend the charging time.
Can it be charged from the grid as well?
Yes. The HiBattery 4020 can also be charged from the grid. With Hoymiles AI-EMS, it supports TOU (Time-of-Use) mode, allowing you to charge the battery during off-peak hours when electricity prices are lower, helping you save on energy costs.
Does it automatically switch to battery power during a blackout?
Yes. The HiBattery 4020 automatically switches to backup power during a blackout, with a fast <0.02s switchover time to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for your essential appliances.
