How to Enable Zero Export Mode?

With a correctly installed Hoymiles Three-Phase Smart Meter, your energy system can dynamically adjust power output to prevent electricity from being exported to the grid.

Before You Start

Please ensure:

✓ The smart meter is installed correctly.

✓ The CT clamps are mounted on the correct phases and oriented properly.

✓ The inverter and smart meter are communicating successfully.

✓ Real-time consumption data is visible in the monitoring platform.

Step 1: Access the Monitoring Platform

  1. Log in to your monitoring platform or energy management system.
  2. Navigate to the inverter or energy management settings.
  3. Locate the Export Control or Power Limitation settings.

Step 2: Enable Zero Export

  1. Select Zero Export Mode or Export Limitation.
  2. Set the export limit to: 0W

This setting instructs the inverter to continuously adjust its output based on household consumption.

Step 3: Save the Settings

  1. Confirm the configuration.
  2. Save the settings.
  3. Wait several minutes for the system to synchronize.

Step 4: Verify Proper Operation

After activation:

  • Household loads should continue to receive power normally.
  • Solar production should automatically match household demand.
  • Export power displayed by the smart meter should remain close to 0 W.
  • Excess energy may be directed to a connected battery system, if available.

Example

Household Consumption Solar Production Grid Export
500 W 500 W 0 W
1200 W 1200 W 0 W
2000 W 2000 W 0 W

The inverter automatically adjusts output to match real-time consumption and prevent export to the public grid.

Troubleshooting

Export Power Is Still Visible

If the system continues exporting power:

  • Verify CT clamp orientation.
  • Confirm CT clamps are installed on the correct phases.
  • Check RS485 communication status.
  • Ensure the export limit is set to 0 W.
  • Restart the inverter and monitoring system if necessary.

Small fluctuations of a few watts are normal due to measurement and communication delays.

Benefits of Zero Export Mode

✓ Complies with local grid requirements

✓ Maximizes self-consumption

✓ Reduces grid dependency

✓ Improves battery utilization

✓ Supports energy management and grid-friendly operation

Once enabled, the system will automatically regulate power production and maintain near-zero export without additional user intervention.
