How to Pair a Hoymiles Smart Meter with HiBattery?

Before You Start

Before pairing, please ensure:

  • The Hoymiles Smart Meter is installed correctly.
  • The HiBattery is powered on and operating normally.
  • The Smart Meter and HiBattery are connected to the internet.
  • The S-Miles Home app is installed on your mobile device.
  • Your HiBattery system has been added to your S-Miles Home account.

Important: The Hoymiles Smart Meter currently connects to the HiBattery via Wi-Fi. Although RS485 communication is supported by the system architecture, the HiBattery 4020 series does not currently support Smart Meter communication via RS485. RS485 connectivity is planned to be enabled through a future firmware update.

Step 1: Verify Smart Meter Installation

Make sure the Hoymiles Smart Meter has been installed correctly according to the installation instructions.

Check that:

  • The Smart Meter is powered on.
  • Voltage, current, and power consumption data are displayed correctly.
  • The CT clamps are installed correctly.
  • There are no error messages on the Smart Meter.

Step 2: Open the S-Miles Home App

  1. Open the S-Miles Home app.
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Select your HiBattery system.
  4. Navigate to Device Settings or Energy Management.

Step 3: Add the Smart Meter

  1. Select Add Device.
  2. Choose Smart Meter from the device list.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
  4. Wait for the system to detect and connect to the Smart Meter.

Once successfully paired, the Smart Meter status should display as Online.

Step 4: Verify Communication

After pairing, confirm that:

  • Real-time household energy consumption data is displayed.
  • Grid import and export data are updating correctly.
  • Battery charging and discharging respond appropriately to household energy demand.
  • Energy flow information is displayed correctly in the app.

If the data is displayed correctly and updates in real time, the Smart Meter has been successfully integrated with the HiBattery system.

Step 5: Enable Zero Export Mode (Optional)

To prevent excess solar energy from being exported to the grid:

  1. Navigate to Energy Management.
  2. Select Export Control or Zero Export Mode.
  3. Set the export limit to 0 W.
  4. Save the settings.

The system will automatically adjust battery charging and discharging to help maintain near-zero grid export.

Troubleshooting

1. Smart Meter Not Detected

  • Check that the Smart Meter is powered on.
  • Verify that the Smart Meter and HiBattery are connected to the internet.
  • Check your network connection.
  • Restart the Smart Meter and HiBattery.
  • Make sure the Smart Meter has been correctly added to the S-Miles Home app.

2. No Consumption Data Displayed

  • Verify that the CT clamps are installed correctly.
  • Ensure the CT clamp arrows point toward the household load.
  • Confirm that all CT clamps are fully closed.
  • Check that the Smart Meter is online and communicating correctly.

3. Zero Export Not Working

  • Verify that the Smart Meter is online and communicating properly.
  • Check that Zero Export Mode is enabled.
  • Confirm that the export limit is set to 0 W.
  • Allow several minutes for the system to synchronize and adjust its energy management.

4. RS485 Connection Not Working

The HiBattery 4020 series does not currently support Smart Meter communication via RS485.

RS485 connectivity is planned for a future firmware update. Once the relevant firmware is released, the RS485 communication function can be enabled according to the updated installation instructions.
