How to Pair a Hoymiles Smart Meter with HiBattery?

Before You Start

Before pairing, please ensure:

  • The Hoymiles Smart Meter is installed correctly.
  • The HiBattery is powered on and operating normally.
  • The smart meter and HiBattery are connected via the RS485 communication cable.
  • The S-Miles Home app is installed and your device is connected to the internet.

Step 1: Connect the RS485 Communication Cable

  1. Locate the RS485 terminals on both the Hoymiles Smart Meter and the HiBattery.
  2. Connect the communication wires according to the terminal markings:

A (+) → A (+)

B (-) → B (-)

  1. Ensure all connections are secure.

Important: Incorrect wiring polarity may prevent communication between devices.

Step 2: Verify Smart Meter Operation

  1. Power on the system.
  2. Check the smart meter display.
  3. Confirm that voltage, current, and power consumption data are displayed correctly.
  4. Ensure there are no error messages on the meter.

Step 3: Open the S-Miles Home App

  1. Launch the S-Miles Home app.
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Select your HiBattery system.
  4. Navigate to Device Settings or Energy Management.

Step 4: Add the Smart Meter

  1. Select Add Device.
  2. Choose Smart Meter from the device list.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
  4. Wait for the system to detect and connect to the smart meter.

Once successfully paired, the smart meter status should display as Online.

Step 5: Verify Communication

After pairing, confirm that:

✓ Real-time household consumption data is displayed.
✓ Grid import and export data are updating correctly.
✓ Battery charging and discharging respond to household energy demand.
✓ Energy flow diagrams are displayed correctly in the app.

Step 6: Enable Zero Export Mode (Optional)

To prevent excess solar energy from being exported to the grid:

  1. Navigate to Energy Management.
  2. Select Export Control or Zero Export Mode.
  3. Set the export limit to 0 W.
  4. Save the settings.

The system will automatically adjust energy production and battery operation to maintain near-zero export.

Troubleshooting

Smart Meter Not Detected

  • Check the RS485 cable connection.
  • Verify A (+) and B (-) wiring polarity.
  • Restart the smart meter and HiBattery.

No Consumption Data Displayed

  • Verify CT clamps are installed correctly.
  • Ensure CT clamp arrows point toward the household load.
  • Confirm all CT clamps are fully closed.

Zero Export Not Working

  • Verify the smart meter is communicating properly.
  • Check that Zero Export Mode is enabled.
  • Confirm the export limit is set to 0 W.
  • Allow several minutes for system synchronization.
